SURVEY MATTERS.
Press AssoeiatJon. AUCKLAND, Nov. 4. I.]io delay which exists in securing the survey of Native and Crown land's in many parts of the country has led to tho supposition that there is a dearth of surveyors. For the purpose of correcting this erroneous impression a meeting of the Auckland .Committee of the New Zealand Insti•fijfe of Surveyors was held to bring before the Native Affair's Committee Hip reason why surveyors will not undertake the survey of Native lands. The. lack of any guarantee of payment f or the largo amount of labor and out-of-pocket expenses attending this cl/.iss of survey is one of the many financial difficulties with which tho surveyor has to contend, as a survey lien is not a negotiable security when acquired. The Auckland Committee decided t'o urge upon the members of / tho Native Committee tho necessity of ‘ embodying in tho Bill now beforo them a recommendation that power bo given to the Surveyor-General to employ licensed surveyors at fixed rates to execute all Native Land Court and Maori Land Board work. A number of other suggestions dealmg with the present difficulty of obtaining approval of plans, etc.; were also forwarded to the Native Affairs Committee.
