Air. W. H. Roberts has been appointed lay reader for the Anglican community at Te Karaka, and commences his duties on Alonday next. • The Rev. Guy Thornton will conduct- tbe services at the Baptist Tabernacle next Sunday, and the services on tlie two following Sundays will be taken by tlie Rev. North, of Ponsonby.

Air. G. R. Neale, who has acted as Government veterinarian in this district for many years, is about to leave Gisborne, having been promoted to a similiar office in Timaru. He will leave in about a fortnight. At last night’s banquet a presentation of a .'past officer’s emblem was mad© by tlie chairman to P.G. Bro. Goldsmith, to mark his marriage, which is io take place shortly.
