RAGGING IN THE RAILWAY SERVICE.
Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 1. At the “ragging” inquiry to-diiy, Harry H. Jackson, locomotive engineer for the Hurumui-Bluff section, stated that complainants had been received from cleaning-sheds from time to time, hut nothing more serious than horse-play and the throwing of “slurry” was alleged. No indecency had been complained of. He thought.that oven if supervision were trebled it would be impossible to prevent a certain amount of liorse-play taking place. If there were any serious abuses in the shed he felt sure there were at least half a dozen lads who would come forward and say so. The officers of the Department were doing their best to put down any skylarking and lior.sep'.ny. The inquiry was concluded this evening, and the Commissioner will report to the Department.
