The Finance Committee of the Borough Council has drawn up the following statement of accounts for presentation to tho next meeting of the Borough Council: — GENERAL ACCOUNT. Liabilities: Overdraft 16th October, 1907. £2538; interest- on overdraft, £150; special rate in general account, £725; contractors’ deposits in account, £843; contract 102 Abattoir road, £500; contract 101 (1000 yd shingle), £170; contract 100 (5000 yd broken metal), £3200; contract 99 Ivaiti Esplanade, £375; contract 98 Offices, £2133; street lighting, £270; abattoirs, £700; offico expenses,£3Bo; hospital and licensing*. £250; sanitation, £575; fire prevention, £250; miscellaneous, £200; streets general, £1600; deficiency Roebuck road 'bridge, £234; water - supply, £500; money available, £1527. Total, £l/ 125. Assets: Subsidy, say, £275; fees and rents, £350; licenses, £250; miscellaneous, £200; abattoirs, £750; general rates, £5300; overdraft 31st March, 1907, £IO,OOO. Total, £17,12 °’ THE WATERWORKS.
Expended: Preliminary expenses, £l2Ol Ids sd; watershed and cottage, (2209 acres), £5014; interest on loan, £l7lO 8s 6d ; engineering, £3122; miscellaneous, £774 ]os lid; main pipe contract, Spiral Pipe Co., £17,249; reticulation contract, £16,689. Total, £55,760 13s lOd. Owing: Engineering £l2B, house connections £2OOO, miscellaneous £940, • main pipe contract £11,121, reticulation contract £5049, total £19,239. Grand total, £75,000. - ROEBUCK ROAD BRIDGE. The position of the bridge loan of £5500 was shown as follows: Amount paid £4541, owing £1193; total cost £5734 17s 6d, leaving a deficiency of £234, not including fencing and metalling. * RATES.
A statement of rates collected from 1892 to 1907 was submitted, showing that the general rates collected had increased from £990 in 1892 to £6820 in 1906, and that special rates had decreased from £6-tl to £137. Only £4O remained on the books lor tlie. past two years, and was considered collectable.
