EARTHQUAKES.
United Press Association—Copyright THURSDAY ISLAND, Oct. 28. A severe earthquake occurred at 7 o’clock this morning. There were several minor shocks up to 8 o’clock. Tlie lighthouse at Goode Island has been considerably damaged. Details nre meagre. THURSDAY ISLAND, Oot. 29. The earthquakes experienced here have been severe. The first shock occurred at 6.40 a.im. yesterday, accompanied by a noise similar to the discharge of Maxims. It lasted r.ix seconds.' Lighter shocks and subterranean explosions followed up to 7.30. 'The movement mas north-cast to south-west. The area extended from Goode Island to Cape York. No damage occurred at Thursday Island. At Goode Island the lighthouse reservoirs fell and broke the concrete foundation and started all the light ironwork. A later report states that a severe shock occurred ■at Booby Isl/iud, although no damage was done.
ROME, Oct. 28. ■Fresh earthquakes at Ferrnzzano opened an alarming chasm in the Calabrian rock bed. BLENHEIM. Oct. 29. A severe shock of earthquake was ‘felt a.t 12.35 list night’.
