The attention of the public is directed to the revised railway timetable to be followed on Thursday and Friday next, in connection with the races.
Cr. Sherratt was yesterday appointed to preside over a meeting of the ratepayers in the Patutaihi Riding for considering the question of raising a loan. ■ The following additions have been made to the Telephone Exchange: —29. • A letter was received at yesterday’s meeting of the County Council from Messrs. Olirisp and Coleman, who notified that the Borough Council refused to recognise any liability respecting damage to County roads through extraordinary traffic and laying of water-pipes. The Engineer reported that repairs were still in progress. The matter was held over till the repairs are completed.. 1
A feature of special interest which will be included in the forthcoming production of “Brewster’s Millions” in Sydney will bo the great ship scene, which shows ,a steam launch lying at anchor in harbor. The anchor is weighed and the yacht starts on an eventful journey. After tossing wildly about on an angry sea die finally becomes disabled, and her passengers, headed by Monty Brewster, are towed by another vessel to New York.
At the meeting of the Cook County Council yesterday Cr. AV. D. Lysnar mentioned the question of the proposed alteration of the Cook and AA'airoa Counties. The AA’airoa County, he said, wanted to take in properties up to the Bushy' Knoll road, hut he held tlrat this was wrong—the AA’airoa County should make its boundary on the water-shed between the Ruaki.turi road and the Bushy Knoll road. Councillors generally were favorable to Cr. Lyisnar’s view, but no action was taken.
There was some discussion at the meeting of the County Council yesterday ns to tile Council’s time of meeting. Several councillors spoke strongly against- a meeting only once a month, drawing attention to the long time matters held over from one meeting remained unattended to, and to the fact that when the Council did meet there was always a very heavy order paper. The opinion was expressed that a fortnightly meeting would meet the case. Yesterday was a particularly heavy day for the Council, the fitting lasting from 10.30 a .in. to 5 p.an.
AA'hen several small building matters were brought up at List night's meeting of the Hospital Trustees, Mr. Matthews said lie thought a committee should he appointed to report on the general building scheme. AA’ihen these little works were done care should be taken to make them of a permanent character. He moved that Messrs. Bright, Dewing, and Lysnar. and the mover bo a committee to report on the buildings. Dr. Morrison gave it as his opinion I hat any additions should he made in brick. The committee was empowered to engage ail architect to help them in their deliberations. On the proposition of Dr. Morrison it was decided that a member of the medical staff should lieln the committee.

Members of the East Coast Mounted Rilles are requested to assemble at tho Quartermaster’s on Ihursday evening to bid farewell to SergeantMajor Morrison, who is leaving tor Auckland.
It was stated at last night’s meeting of the Hospital Trustees tdiat the sum set out- in tho treasurer’s report for subscriptions (£sl 17s 2d) was chiefly made up by an anonymous donation of £35 odd and subscriptions from the Chinese residents of the town.
Petitions were presented to the meeting of the County Council yesterday from ratepayers in the Ngatapa and Poverty Bay Road Boards, asking that the roads under the control of the Boards be declared County roads. Tho request of both petitions was granted. A meeting of the East Coast Railway League is convened for 2.45 o’clock on Friday afternoon next. A full attendance is requested, as the League is desirous of making representations to the Government urging the more expeditious construction of the C! i iborne-Moitn-Opo-tiki line.
