FIRE AT ASHBURTON.
Press Association. ASHBURTON, Oct. 20 At 2 o’clock this morning the business premises in East street occupied by David Sutherland, confectioner and caterer, and A. T. HWilliams, bookseller and stationer, were gutted by fire. Mr Sutherland, his wife, and a servant girl, iv ho occupied the upper story as a dwelling, just managed to escape in a state of deshabille by way of the verandah.
