SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
BIBLE-IN-SCHOOLS QUESTION
The usual meeting of the Gisborne School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Somervell (in the chair), Sawyer, Bright, Wildish, Barton, Spence, and Revs. Griilin and Grant. . The Headmaster reported that the Inspectors would visit the school on October 23rd. —Mr. Grant asked if tlio Show would not interfere with the school attendance. —Mr. Barton proposed that the matter bo left in the hands of the chairman, with power to act after consultation, .with the inspector.—This was agreed to. The Visiting Committee recommended various small alterations in general arrangements, including tlie new water service. The Headmaster, Mr. Rowley, brought up the new regulations recently passed by tlio Education Board, cspeeiallv mentioning the regulation which bears on the question of Bible classes—Mr. Grant questioned whether the regulation overrode the Act. Mr Barton explained that the Act demanded four hours’ instruction, but that the Education Board could make regulations allowing for ™ ol f than that-.—Mr. Grant, on behalf of those in favor of Bible teaching, said the matter would bo seriously considered. ..
