United Press Association —Copyright ■(Received Oct. 15, 9 20 p.m.) LONDON. Oct-. 15.
Air. Fox, general secretary of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen, addressing a Fargo meeting of railway men at Cambridge, denounced Mr. Bell’s tactics as indulging in unnecessary menace and mud slinging. He predicted the agitation a hopeless failure. Enginemen did not want an ex-rail-way guard to represent them but an engineer when negotiating about enginemen. Air Ramsay Alacdonald says that if the Conciliation Act anil other powers possessed bv the Board of Trade are insufficient to prevent a strike, then tho Government ought to summon Parliament in order to strengthen the hands of the Board of Trade to enable it to act effectively. , • Mr Bell, interviewed, said,“The olive branch has been held out often enough We are now asking the men to strike, and tho matter as in their hands.”
SITUATION CRITICAL. (Received Oct. 16, 0.7 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. The Chronicle says the nation looks to Air. Lloyd George in the event of a strike, even if it is necessary to ask Parliament for fresh legislation. Air. Lloyd George states it would be madness for him to say anything at the present juncture. The situation is exceedingly dolicato.
