SALVATION ARMY FAREWELL.

CADETS TO THE FORE.

A farowol social was tendered at tho Salvation Army Barracks last ovoning to Cadets Arthur Morgan and Hanford, who leave Gisborne tins evening on routo for Melbourne, where they will go through a course oi special training at- tho Melbourne Garrison. In addition to tho full strength of tho local corps, thorp was a fair gathering of tho public interested in Army work, and the proceedings were bright and animated. Musical and elocutionary items, band selections, speeches and presentations pleasantly' filled in the evening. The gift of a fine travelling bag was made to Cadet Morgan, who is a Gisborne resident, Adjutant Dickens handing it to the yocipient on behalf of the local corps, whose good wishes ho conveyed. Cadet Hanford is to be farewelled at Petone, from whence ho hails, but ho also was presented with a memento of his stay m Gisborne. In wishing the young aspirants God-speed and speaking- words of inspiration and encouragement, Adjutant Dickens impressed upon thorn tho qualifications necessary and the obligations they must undertake in life as Army officers. He said that tho Army must, ever bo a friend of tho working people, and devote its first thought- to the poor, the sorrowing, and those in need of moral and material assistance. It was the poor man’s church. (Applause.) ' Mrs. Houldcn spoke on behalf oi the sisters, and Sergt.--Major Sawyer for the men of the corps. Te cadets made modest, yet withal manly-, little speeches,, in acknowledgment. The programme included a duet by Sister Collyer and W.-Fisher, recitation by Miss Peters, duet Sister Yardley and I. Houldcn, and a solo by Bio. Coleman. The band selection, “God be with you,” brought tho farewell to a close.
