RAILWAY servants favor STATE OWNERSHIP.
PREFERENCE TO FOREIGNERS. United Press Association—Copyright (Received Oct. 11, 11.25 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 11. The Congress of the Amalgamated Railway Servants’ Society, with two dissentients, recommended State control of railways. ■Mr. Richard Bell declared that when nationalisation came thousands of railway men would suffer, because much surplus labor would follow upon the removal of competition. He concluded by championing private investors in railways, and making a bold stand against some confiscation [ ideas current. j Sul)-se"((uenitly the Congress altered' the resolution to read “State ownership” instead of “State control.” It- also adopted a resolution condemning the tendency among railways to penalise British trade by giving preferential rates to foreign producers and manufacturers.
