Charles Stuart ran a mile in lmin 51sec, Saraband and Jack Smith registering a similar performance. Ebullition and True Scot journeyed a mile in lmin 50Jsec, and Fangaroa in lmin SOsec. Knox skipped over 9 furlongs in 2min 6sec, and Charmant left 6 furlongs behind in
lmin 23sec. Zinskie was restricted to slow work, while Alazari put in a strong working gallop.
Consequent on the Sydney races, there is no settled betting market.

Tlie betting market over the two Cups is becoming active. Poseidon still remains favorite for the Caulfield Cup at 4 to 1, while Subterranean is next in demand at 6 to 1. For the Alelbourne Cun the New Zealander Apologue has T beon backed to win £7OOO, at prices varying from 100 to 7 to 100. to 12, which had the effect of installing him favorite, and the best price on offer is 7 to 1. Of the others Alountain King and Alooltau are quoted at 10 to 1, -and Dyed Garments and First Foot at 16 to 1.
