3lr. E. Elliot lias just been presented with a walking-stick (says the-Ta-ranaki Herald) which has a particularly interesting history. It is a relic of the massacre on the vessel Bovd which occurred in \Miaiigaroa Harbor, North Auckland, about February 10 1809. The Boyd left Sydney at the end of January, 1809, to load kauri spars at Wkangaroa for England for Admiralty use. Among t,lie = passengers was the son of a Maori chief, who was flogged for refusing to obey some trivial request. Upon arrival at Wbangaroa he informed his tribe of the insult inflicted on him, and they thereupon planned the massacre, from which only a woman, and child were rescued, the timber from which the walking-stick is made was 90 years under water in the Boyd’s hull. 'lt was 9m square and 12ft long. It is supposed to be Australian red gum, taken oil board in Sydney. A TENANT DISPOSSESSED.
