WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. Tlie Higli Commissioner cables: “The mutton market is slightly weaker and there is less demand. Canterbury is at 3Jd, North Island 31d. There is a good demand for prime quality lamb. Canterbury is at 5Jd, other than Canterbury 5Jd. . The beef market is dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large, hindquarters 3|d, forequarters 2g.d. Tho butter market is very firm. There is a bettor demand and supplies are decreasing. Following are current quotations:—Australian 112 s, saltless 2s premium over this figure; Danish 117 s, Siberian 100 s per cwt. The cheese market remains firm. Canadian white is at 61s, colored 625. Tho hemp market is quiet and prices are slightly weaker. Good fair grade on spot £32, fair grade £29. Octob-er-December shipments fair grade £2B 10s. The cocksfoot seed market is very firm. Buyers are offering more freely Bright clean New 'Zealand 171 b seed ,is at 68s. The hop market is firm. The crop. is much below the average, and prices are rising. The present price of hops is £5 5s per cwt. The wool sales have closed. There has been an exceptional demand. The stock is moderate, and manufacturers require supplies. The trade is good and likely to continue so, and the prospects are favorable. Estimated values are as follows: Fine crossbreds, all grades, Is 2d to Is od; medium crossbreds, all grades lOd to Is lid; coarse crossbreds, all grades, 9id to Is Qid; superior merino Is lid to Is 4d, medium .merino Is Id to Is 2id; inferior merino Bfd to Hid.

LONDON, October 6. Wool: At the sales just closed 94,600 bales wore sold; the .Homo market taking 48,500, contxnenatl 33,000, . America 2000, and 750 held over. Compared witli July sales merinos closed 10 to 12i per cent higher, fine crossbreds 5 to 7 i coarse 5 per cent - higher, merino ■lambs 5 to 10 per cent, crossbreds one penny higher. The Gear clip sold at UJd. , The sheepshins auctions will bo held on January 16, March 12, May 7, June 25, July 30, .September 10, October 22, and December 17. Wheat: The wheat markets are firmer on unfavorable cables from India and Australia, and there is a general advance of from 3d to bd. Cargoes are strong at 40s. An Adelaide July-August shipment was offered at 40s 3d. . , , Wool: On the Bradford market wool is quiet and unchanged, tho high prices checking business.. Butter is firm: Danish 117 sto 119 s, colonial unchanged. There is good demand arising for stored colonials at 96s to 104 s, owing to the diminution of European supplies.
