Lumpers are working knee deep in water. It is possible, this afternoon tho refrigerating machinery-will bo set running to keep _ down tho temperature in the freezing chambers. Tho beef is decomposing. The steamer Kaliu is loading up 1500 bales of damaged wool, and will leavo for Napier this evening. Tlie wool will be reconditioned and repacked.

ARREST OF RIOTERS. ALLEGATIONS AGAINST NATIVE POLICE. United Press Association—Copyright (Received Oct. 7, 11 p.m.) BOMBAY, Oct. 7. Many ruffians were arrested at Calcutta for looting during the riots. An enquiry has been opened into the allegation that a number of native police participated.

APPROACHING VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. HIS EXCLUSION ADVISED. Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 7. At a meeting of the Parnell Borought Council to-night tho Mayor (Mr. G. W. Basley) referred in strong terms to the approaching .visit-of Mr. Keir Hardie to New Zealand, and expressed tho opinion that measures should be taken to prevent him from landing in the -Dominion. He thought Councillors generally agreed that ho was an undesirable visitor. They pointed out that he could not very well be refused a landing, and after some discussion the following resolution was carried and is to be telegraphed to the Premier in the morning: “That this Council strongly deprecate any favor being shown by any Government or civic official of this Dominion to Mr. Keir Hardie. whose seditious and disloyal utterances in India prove him to be a person utterly unworthy of the regard and esteem due to a member of the House of Commons.”
