UTILITY POULTRY CLUB.
Mr. A. Nightingale presided- over a general meeting of the P.B. Utility Poultry Club, held at Mr. Morrell’s, Whataupolvo, last evening. With reference to the office of president, Mr. F. J. Rowley wrote thanking tho club for the compliment of election, but expressing regret that, in consequence of pressure of engagements, he was unable to accept tho position. Messrs. G. Brown and P. Vosper were elected viice-pro-siklents, and Mr. O. J. Morrell secretary and treasurer. Five nominations were received for two members to comprise the special sub-commit-tee, Messrs. A. Nightingale and C. Blackburn being elected after a ballot. The matter of electing a president was deferred to next meeting, at tho request of Mr. Nightingale, who was ashed to fill the position.
A good deal of routine business and useful discussion followed. The secretary was instructed to have 150 copies of tho rules printed and distributed, a number of inquiries havaur* been received as to the objects of the club. Correspondence was read from Mr. F. E. A. Gordon, who has now been appointed travelling representative of the New Zealand Poultry Journal. He drew attention to the special features of this monthly publication, and to his book on “Utility Poultry for Australasia,” intimating also that he purposed 1 a business trip to Gisborne at an early date. A list of names was recorded 1 of members willing to subscribe to the journal, the secretary stating that by sending in subscriptions through the club a reduction in price would bo given.
Reference was made by Mr. Morrell to the proposal to hold a N.Z. Poultry Conference next June, primarily for tho benefit of utility breeders. The project was favored, but the matter of appointing a delegate was left over until the club is in a hotter financial position.
