. Inconvenient consequences very often arise as a result of holding decided opinions without first ascertaining the facts of the cose. An experience of this kind occurred to a Whangarei yachtsman. 'When sailing on the shallow side of the Ned Kelly buoy, he had an impression that the boat had grounded. He rolled up his trousers and stepped overboard with culm assurance, to push the yacht off, and disappeared in two fathoms of water. When he reappeared, with a lost look on his face, the yacht hiad inconveniently got out of reach, in rough water, and he struck out landwards, gaining a foothold after swimming a chain or two. He remained in his uncomfortable position for a long time before being picked up.
