INVERCARGILL, Oct. 3.
In the Arbitration Court to-day declarations of liability were made by the Court in the compensation claims Harding v. Nightcaps Coal Go. (in which claimant lost- an eye through a blow from a lump of coal) and Clifford v. Rodger, in which claimant alleged loss of the use of his right arm and partially of one leg through a fall from a horse when in respondent’s service. A penalty of £2 was imposed on the Muddy Creek Gold Dredging Company for neglecting to allow' shifts to go round.
WANGANUI, Oct, 3.
At the Police Court to-day Hugh John McLean, of Oliakuno, was fined £SO. in default three months’ imprisonment, for sly-grog selling. AUCKLAND, Oct. 3. A 14 days’' campaign for a new and more up-to-date building for tlio local branch of the Young Men’s Christian Association begins next Monday, tho amount required being £15,000.
