Maharanui was scratched for the New Zealand Cup at 9 o’clock to-day. bowling. TURANGANUI CLUB. A committee meeting of the Turanganui Bowling Club was held yesterday afternoon, general business being dealt with. It was decided to appoint Mr. Fogdon caretaker to the club. A ground committee, consisting of Messrs Matthowson, Skeet and Nasmith, was appointed, to whom the date of the opening of the season was referred. The prospects of tho club for the ensuing season aro exceedingly bright. The green, which has been lately top-dressed, is coming on well, and, given favorable weather, should, be open tat -an early date. The connection of the grounds with the water mains should materially assist ill making the green second to none in the colony. Tho club is making steady headway in membership, and keen interest is likely to ensue in tho many competitions which are being arranged for tho season. Already trophies have been donated by Messrs Matthowson, Martin, Simson, and Morse, together with the Bennett Cup. An endeavor is likely to be made to send two rinks from the club to the Northern Bowling Association’s tournament at Auckland in January next, and should teams bo sent tho club should make a creditable debut.
THE NEW ASSOCIATION. Press Association. DUNEDIN. Oc-t. 3. At a meeting of the new Bowling Association last evening, it was decided to form six centres, constituted as follows: (1) Dunedin centre, comprising the city and suburbs of Dunedin, towns of Port Chalmers and Outram, and the intervening country; (2) Christchurch centro, -which extends from and includes the town or Ashburton northward of the river Hurunui; (3) Invercargill centre, comprising the districts of Makatipu and Southland, south of and including Gore; (4) North Otago centre, comprising the towns of Oamaru and Palmerston, -and that portion of Otago between Palmerston and tho northern boundary of the province; (5) South Canterbury district, comprising the town of Oamaru -and that p-irt of Canterbury between Ashburton and tho southern boundary of the province; (6) South 0ta"O centre, comprising Milton,” Sterling Balclutha, Kaitau(6l South Otago centre, comprising Milton; -Sterling, Balclutha, Kaitan"ata, Clinton, Lawrence, -and Tapanui, and the intervening country.
