THE FISHING SEASON.

(Special to Times.)

AA’ELLINGTON. Oct. 1.

The trout-fishing season opened today, and as the morning was fine a largo number of anglers went forth to try their skill. Every river and tributary in tho vicinity of AVellingt-on had its full quota of fishermen. Generally speaking good catches were obtained, though an impending change in the weather put the fish down early in the afternoon. Somo anglers got their limit of twenty fish, but the majority were not so successful. On one small stream (the Alungaroa) there were twelve anglers busily engaged. Included in the number was a girl angler, who, though a novice, basketed seven fish. A male angler caught thirteen. Tho trout in most of tho streams are reported to be in good -condition. Of late years, however, there has been a gradual deterioration in size.
