DOMINION DAY.

Dominion Day will bo observed by i/lio post and telegraph offices as la holiday. The following arrangements have been made: Postal Branch: Thursday, 26th, will be observed as a close holiday. Posting boxes will bo cleared on the evening of Wednesday, 25tli September. The usual despatch of mails up to 8 a.m. will bo made. On Wednes- ‘ day, the 25ftdi, the post office. will no open from 7 to 8 p.m. for delivery of correspondence. Letter-carriers dolivery from post office wicket. Telegraph Office: On Thursday, 26tli September, the office will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight. Telephono Exchange: Attendance as usual from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The question of closing at 11 a.m. on Dominion Day instead of declaring u wholo holiday was mooted at the Council meeting last evening.. Tlio Mayor said tradespeople should show a little patriotism, as it only meant closing an additional half-day on Thursday, and his motion for a full holiday was eventually agreed to. The proclamation is to be read at the firebell corner of Gladstone road at 11 o’clock There will be no volunteer parade.' but the City Band will enliven the proceedings. An adjournment will then bo made to tlio Sievwright memorial in Peel street, which is to bo unveiled and formally handed over to the borough. Tlio principal afternoon attraction will he the rowing regatta.

Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 24. The Canterbury Trades and Labor Council have decided to enter an emphatic protest against declaring Dominion Day a holiday.
