SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21. (Before Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M.) Alleged Embezzlement. —Edward Cornwall Clark was charged with embezzling funds to the amount of £156 11s 9d from the firm of Messrs Williams and Kettle, Limited.—Mr. J. W. Nolan conducted tho prosecution, and Mr. W. L. Rees appeared for the accused, who pleaded guilty.—Lester Redward deposed that he knew the accused, who was cashier at Messrs Williams and Kettle’s. It was witness’s duty to receive the cash takings from accused and to enter them in a rough' cash-book. His entries were checked by a junior clerk. On the 14tli February, 1905, the books showed a shortage of £6, there being a payment of £ls Is lid. On 3rd March, 1905, there was a shortage of £6 17s lid, on 19th April £ll 17s, 7th June, 1905, £6 9s 4d, 24tli July, 1905, £l6 10s Bd, 21st August £6 12s 6d, 22nd September, 1905, £5, 27th October £6 2s sd, 27th December, 1905, £5 7s, 4th January, 1906, £8 2s lid, 24th February £6 Bs, 12th March, 1906. £lO. 26th May, 1906, £l3 11s 4d, 22nd June, 1906, £l9 7s Id, August Ist, 1907, £2 7s 9d, 3rd August, 1907, £lB Is, 15th August, 1907, £3 14s 6d.—The accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being allowed', himself in £IOO, and two sureties of £SO each.
Drunkenness.—John Charles Biggar was charged with having been found rlrunk, and was convicted and fined the sum of 10s, costs 2s, in default 21 hours’ imprisonment. Procuring Liquor.—John Charles Biggar was further charged with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, nad was convicted and fined tho sum of £3, costs 2s, in default 7. days’ imprisonment.
