The racing season of 19U/-S was opened in Auckland to-day, when the Avondale Jockey Club inaugurated their Spring meeting, lbo weather „ .. s fine, aiul there was a capital attendance. The sum of £7927 10s was passed through the totalisator against decrease of £3B 10s. llesults. Maiden Plate, of 70 sovs, sax'furlongs— Gay Paris, 7.10,1 ; Octoroon, 83, 2; Castadrift. 7.9, 3. Scratched: Henry Havelock and Klondyko.W on by half a length. Time, Imm 21sec. Dividends, £2 7s and £3 -s. First Handicap Hurdles, of 80 sovs, two miles—Aqua Regia. 7 12, 1; Lady Huno, 12.5, 2; Sol, 10.12, 3. All started. Won easily by five lengths. Time, 3inin 59sec. Dividend, £3 ss. Avondalo Stakes, of 200 sovs, tor two-vear-olds, four furlongs—Talepitcher, 8.0. 1; Sedition, S.O, 2 ; Rarata, 8.0, 3. Scratched: Waimangu, Pyralis, Coromandel. Prior to tho start. Aqua Fortis jumped a fence and got out of the course, and did not take part in the race. Hahungatalii lod to tho straight, whore tho field closed up, and a groat race ended in favor of Talepitcher by a head, with Rarata a head behind Sedition in third place. Time, smin 3 2-5 sec. Dividends, £5 16s and £1 Is. Avondale Cup, 0f.250 sovs, one ill'lle and a quarter—Uranium, 8.5, 1; Scotty, 5.6, 2: Shrapnel. 6.11, 3. Scratched: Haldane and Tui Cakabau. Uranium was in front all the way and won by a neck from Scotty, who ran wide at tho turn, Shrapnel a length away third. Inglis left the post and took no part in the race. Time, 2min 5 2-5 sec. Dividends, £3 5s and £1 13s.
Plunket Handicap, of 80 sovs, seven furlongs—Loch Buie, 8.0, 1; Pearlie. 8.10, 2; Omati, 9.4, 3. Scratched: Luresome and Cyniri. Won easily by two lengths. Time, linin 34sec. Dividend £5 9s. Steeplechase'Handicap, of 70 sovs, about three miles—Nor’-west, 9.12, 1 ; Cinque, 9.10, 2; Lady Lanta, 9 7, 3. All started. Won by a length. Time. 6min 27sec. Dividends, £8 and £1 2s. Pony Handicap, of 30 sovs, six furlongs—Wailiou, 8.9, 1; Octoroon, 9.0, 2; Manapouri, 8.12, 3. Also started: ><gakapu. Won very easily by six lengths. Time, Imin 20sec. Dividend, £3 83. Flying Handicap. 100 sovs, six furlongs—Te Aroha, 8.1, 1 ; Millie, 8.3, 2; Omati, 7.7, 3. Scratched: Peregrine. Won by a neck. Time, lmin 19sec. Dividends, £3 11s and £1 17s. COLLARIT.
United Press Association—Copyright (Received Sept. 22, 5.5 p. m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 22. Collarit, starting odds on, won the Spring Stakes at Rosebill, beating Lady Florence after a good finish in lmin 41Jsec. It is whispered that Collarit is an unlikely startor in the Epsom Handicap.
