Mr. Fox, secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen, declares that its 29,000 members, the majority of whom are engine-drivers, will not join the Amalgamated Society of Railwaymen in the event of the latter striking. He firmly believes that there will be no strike. The new Cunard liner Mauretania has completed the builders’ preliminary tests. A Lodz spinner named Silderskiin bas been murdered by his employees for refusing to pay them their wages for a. fortnight, during which they were on strike. Troops and police surrounded the building, and subselneatly arrested 800 of the employees. The Standardt’s disaster was due to tlie captain not receiving the Russian Hydrographic Department’s new chart showing tlie rocks where she stranded.
