ANIMALS PROTECTION BILL.

. A CONSOLIDATING MEASURE. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. Tho Animals Protection Bill, winch is mainly a consolidating measure, lias been introduced by the Government. It provides that tho season for killing native and imported game in New Zealand shall bo from Ist May to 31st July, but no game may bo killed between 7 p.m. and G a.m. The Acclimatisation Societies Conference, as a result of representations made by tho Auckland Society, had requested that tho opening of the season should not commence, on Ist May till 6 a.m. instead of midnight. Tlio provision just/ quoted lias evidently been inserted to meet tho wishes , of the conference. The trapping of • ; 4? game is prohibited, as is also the use of metal-patched or metal-cased bullets. Tho Bill also proposes to give tho Government power to declare cer-t-i’u animals and birds protected, and that 1010 and every third year thereafter shall bo a close season for all - kinds of game (other than doer). Further, the Bill provides that any person found trespassing on private . - property with gun or dog and gun shall prima facie bo deemed to be in - pursuit of game, and is liable to a fine ; r , U £5. Provision is also made for the incorporation of acclimatisation societies- .
