The following passages have been booked: —Misses fctuarit, Wilson, Gov., Airs. McKenzie, Messrs. Brown, Stevens, Collins. Kligner. The Union Co.’s s.s. Squall left for Auckland at a late hour last night. The scow Alert sailed for A gunguru vesterday morning- . Messrs. Richardson and Co. s s.s. Burn has been further delayed at Napier oil account of the bad weather. , , . The rivalry between two skippers is probably responsible for some extra churning of the Pacific foam at the present time. The James Craig and the Louis i Craig have both been notified as having left Newcastle on Thursday last with a cargo of coal for Auckland, and there is likely to be a keen contest to decide which shall first reach Auckland Harbor. On the outward trip both vessels reached Newcastle simultaneously, and the race between the two skippers to get ashore first provided abundant amusement for those fortunate enough to witness it. 9 ne l eft his ship unanchored, and jumping into an open boat was rowed to tlie shore. Reporting himself at his agent’s office, he reioiced in the knowledge that he had beaten liis rival ou points. Unfortunately bis joy was short-lived, for at the self-same moment 'the other skipper, who had exhibited equal celerity, was insisting upon a sleepy clerk at the Harbor .Board office registering him as having arrived.
