OKS PROHIBITION PBO--1 HIBIT? LIQUOR DEALERS SAY YES 1 Tho “Win.© and Spirit Nows,” of Ohio, said: “Soldom, if ovor, has thoro boon a timo when <tho trade has boon menaced by so many dangers as now threaten it.” . “Bonfort’s "Win® and Spirit Circular,” ono of tlio loading liquor paper* of tlio United States, frankly stated that—‘‘A wave of Prohibition, is swooping ovor this country, from ono ond to tlio other, that threatens to engulf the entire whisky enterprise. IT IS GROWING STRONGER EACH DAY, and each dav towns, cities, counties, and oven States, are added to that class in which tho whisky business cannot bo carried on ilogiitinratoly.” “The Liquor Trades Gazette,” in an article entitled “Going Dry Too East,” gives a list of counties, cities, and towns in tho United States in which Prohibition is in operation, the number of States affected being 41. Tho “Gazetto” articlo closes with tho following significant statement: “This is an extraordinary showing,
and it would seem to bo high time that tho whisky trade was preparing its defence, if it does not want to be wiped off the face of the Aantli.” “The Mida’s Criterion/’ a li<juor journal in Chicago, published a map of Texas, shearing 132 dry, 60 seniidrv. and only 5-1 wholly wet counties, and then concludes as follows: —“The whole speaks for itself as to tho alarming progress being made by the Prohibition element.” “Tho National Wholesale Liquor Dealers' Association” of America held its annual Convention at Pittsburgh on June 12th, 1902, when a number of resolutions were passed, of which the following significant utterance formed a part:—“Whereas the agitation in favor of Prohibition HAS INCREASED TO SUCH AN ALARMING EXTENT ALL OVER THE COUNTRY that the very life of our business is threatened.” On June Gtli last the .UNITED STATES BREWERS’ ASSOCIATION held a Conference at Atlantic City. The vigilance committee read a report, part of which is as followsi “It .is only too apparent that the enemies of our industry HAVE MORE THAN HELD THEIR OWN in the struggles of the past year. Emboldened bv their victories they are planning greater conquests in the future.” The Liquor Dealers here are constantly telling us that Prohibition is a failure in the United States. The above statements from the representitives of their own party slioav the contrary. What is it that “aLanins” the liquor dealers in America so much —the failure of Prohibition, or its success? Wo leave the average schoolboy to decide. J^ESTAURANT
