Nightcaps Commission Dcputv Dixon, recalled, admitted that once before the temporary stoppings were put up he had to be oirried away from, a fire- when lie had been pouring water and was overcome by gases. That was about two months before the disaster. Mackie and Lloyd, carried him away. Janies Somerville, who after eleven years in the service.of t-lie Nightcaps Company left and becamo a farmer since the fire, said that on night shift had once called Mr. Frame out about two months before tho disaster, because the smoke and fire were had. Later Frame said not to call him again.- On that occasion a fan was started and the smoko cleared away, and tho fire was got under. AVitness and a boy, Brazier, were troubled by smoko every night. Several times he felt overcome by something in the mine. Ho nearly always had a headache on the night shift, and frequently vomited.
