The Miowera arrived from Sydney yesterday and sailed the same evening for Southern ports. The Kotere arrived at Whangaei at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Messrs Richardson and Co.’s Fanny arrived from Napier yesterday morning with a general cargo, and returns via the Coast this morning. The Shaw,Savill and Albion Co.’s Athenic is due from Lyttelton on Friday to load frozen meat, etc., for the London market. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. are the loading agents. The auxiliary schooner Fail-hum arrived from Napier on Tuesday. Fine weather prevailed throughout tho voyage. The cargo consists of 53,000 feet rinm timber and 100 house-blocks. After 'discharging the Fairburn will be placed on Hie slip to he overhauled. The Union Steamship Co.’s s.s. Tarawera has re-entered the East Coast running, and arrived from South yesterday morning. Captain D. McLean late of the s.s. Navua, is in command. Mr. A. T. Norton is chief officer, Air. Reed second officer, and Air. J. Morrison third officer, Air. Ewan purser, and Air. A. Pollock chief steward. According to previous arrangement, Captain Ross took command of the s.s. Haupiri on Tuesday night, Captain Afcißride proceeding to Auckland yesterday oil leave. There were a few minutes of excitement on the s.s. Fnniiv prior to leaving the Napier wharf for Gisborne. owing to a blaze amongst a number of cases of benzine stored on deck. It is supposed that a lighted ■match was dropped near a leaking tin. Fortunately the flare was suppressed before any-damage was done, and when the vessel arrived here the onlv token of the incident was a slight charring on some of the cases.
