Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 30. A four-roomed house at Maranui iraa burned .down this afternoon. The insurance on the building was £l5O in the Liverpool and London and Globe and on the contents £IOO in. the Atlas Office. The steamer Gothic which left Wellington on July 18th. for London reached Plymouth yesterday morning. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 30. Owing to epidemics of influenza, measles, etc., a large number of echools both in town and country have been closed. AUCKLAND, August 30. The New Zealand amateur boxing championships were opened this evening in the presence of a large attendance, and under the auspices of the Northern Boxing Association. A fine ' exhibition of boxing was given, Results: —Light-weight: 11. Mayze (Christchurch) defeated G. , McCarty (Wellington), both 7st; A. J. Blewden , (Auckland). 9st 121 b, defeated J. Newall (Invercargill). lOst. Middleweight: .7. -Griluiour (Christchurch), list 111), defeated H. Eletelier (Wellington), lOst 81b: Heavy-weight: H. Sandom (Wellington); 13st 61b, defeated J. McConnell (Auckland), 13st 51b. Australasian champion: J. Llovd (Canterbury), 12st, defeated J. R. Hunter (Auckland), 12st 101 b. The finals will be decided on Saturday night. ■
