BRASS BAND CONTEST.

Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 30. A well-attended public meeting was held in connection with tho North Island Brass Bands Association con test, to be held in New Plymouth in February or March next. The Mayor presided. Mr. James Clarke war elected secretary and reported that the result of tho canvass for guaran tees was highly satisfactory. At at: executive meeting subsequently it was decided to communicate with tho association asking the probability of Australian bands competing. Thr meeting was wry . enthusiastic and remembering the success of tho previous contest was sanguine as to the result.
