OBITUARY.

BlitS. MART MIDDER. Townspeople will loam with regret oi' the death of Mrs. Mary Miller (relict of the late Mr. William Miller, of Gisborne), which occurred at her residence at 1.30 a.in. oil Sunday. The docoasod lady was in her 70th year, land until a year or two ago displayed remarkable vigor for her advanced years. Her health, however, commenced to fail some months ago, and at the allotted sip an Mrs. Miller passed peacefully to rest, her end being not unexpected. The departed lady had resided in Now Zealand for 45 years, and came to Gisborne with her husband 31 years ago, after residing in Auckland and Coromandel. Mr. Miller established one of the earliest businesses in Gisborne (that now carried on by his son, Mr. W. Miller), and tlie family is widely known, land respected throughout the district. Mr. Miller predeceased his wife by some 10 years, /and the widow’s declining years were cheered by a numerous family circle. The deceased lady leaves the following sons and daughters to mourn her loss:—Mesdames Gentles (Gisborne), Stanlake (Fiji), and Duggan (Christchurch); Messrs. IV- Miller (Gisborne), George AVm. Miller (of Messrs. Miller and Craig), Id. Miller (of Messrs. Johnson and Miller), F. Miller (Gisborne), Jas. and Edward Miller (Western Australia). The private interment takes 'place to-day.

Mil. ALEX. 11088. The district showed appreciation of a worthy settler and esteemed resident by the large and representative gathering at the funeral obsequies of the late Mr. Alexander Robb, yesterday afternoon. The cortege, which left the residence of the deceased’s son, (Mr. R. Robb, Mangapapa, was one of the largest witnessed locally. The largo --roportion of old settlem and those who had passed through the troublous war times was a tribute to the memory of a gallant man, who rendered brave and signal service throughout tho hostilities as a transport officer. The closing scenes in the Makaraka cemetery, when the departed gentleman was laid to rest after a useful lifetime of 71 years, was most impressive.
