Mr. M. Hodgson, enginoor at the Gladstono Freezing Works has received news by cable of the death of his brother in England. He will accordingly leavo on Sunday for the Oid Country where his presence is necessary to assist in tho settlement of his late brother’s business. Air. and Mrs. S. Earle leave Gisborne this morning on a trip to Austialia. They expect to be absent about 12 months. Visitors to town include Alessrs. C :op Bros. (Tarewa), R. C. Murphy (Eauitj), H. P. Taylor, T. F. Longland, H. A. Marriner, McCrlashan, C. S. Cave (Wellington), W. A. Elwartlh (Ngunguru), L. C. Tullock (Tarewa), L. B. Tullock (Mangatu). Air. J. W. J. Preston, manager of the local branch of the Union Company, left last evening b- the Haupi.fi for Auckland, via East Coast bays, on a business trip. He was accompanied by Mrs. Preston.
