MELBOURNE, August 21. Sir AVm. Lyne informed the House that he had received intelligence from Sydney that Mr. Carruthers sent a force of police to one of the wharves and removed a quantity of wire netting ordered by the State Government, in defiance of the Federal Customs officers. One member said Mir. Carrutliers would have been arrested if the Government had done its duty. Sir AVm. Lyne replied that they wanted to act judiciously, but lie thought the Government must proceed further. He had given orders to have other shipments placed under lock and key.
