HOCKEY. The Gisborne Ladies’ Hockey B team played a match at Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon against the —S)stli standard hoys of the Gisborne school, and defeated them by 1 goal to nil. Miss Vera Walters scored the goal for the ladies. A team of gentlemen will play a team of ladies at Victoria Domain next Thursday afternoon, commencing at 2 o’clock sharp. At a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay __Hockoy Association on Friday last it "Wxvas decided to accept the date proposed by the Poverty Bay Association (August 31st) for a representative match. The selectors for the local representative team (Messrs. Pavitt, Buslmell, and Martin) met last evening and pioked the following players to take part in a trial match at Victoria Domain on Thursday next:—A team: W. Friday (goal-keeper), Willock and Brown (full-backs), Olsen, Armstrong, f and Grant (halves), Pine. Wilson, S. Roderick, Bright, and Hooper (forwards.. -B team : Pettie (goal-keep-■£•—or), j. Doyle and J. Martin (fullbacks), Dines. Garrett, and Ellison (halves), M. Doyle, Friar, Hansen, Pirie, and McLaclilan (forwards). Emergencies: Gideon, Bayly, Pollock, Ollivor, and Witty. The A team will play in bluo and black colors, and the B team in white. Mr. Laurenson will officiate as referee. A hockey tournament that is sure to attract considerable interest will be held in Gisborne at the end of August.
