CARRENO
The recital of Madame Teresa Carreno at His Majesty’s Theatre tonight is an event in which much interest is centred. The name of Carreno lias associated with it a unique distinction in the pianistic world. AA 7 ith a force and virility that is marvellous in a woman is associated a supremo talent in the interpretation of all classes of music and a truly captivating personality. According to critics who have heard her in Australia and New Zealand, Madame Carreno is in the zenith of her powers, and as an all-round artist there are few, indeed, of either sex that can he deemed to equal her. In many test pieces slio is said to have outclassed all performers who have been pre-viously heard in Australasia, and her brilliancy and endurance in the showy rhapsodies of Liszt are reported to border'on the miraculous. Carreno lias evidently a rare combination of talent which enables lier to treat a Beethoven Sonata, a Chopin Nocturne, a Rubinstein Romance, and a “tour do force” of Liszt with equal facility. It is only, hv a lucky chance, secured through the personal influence of Herr Scherek, that New Zealanders have tlie onportunity of hearing this famous pianist, as she is due in America in October.
