United Press Association —Copyright LONDON, August 15. The Belfast flax spinners have given, a fortnight’s notice. Thirty thousand workers are idle during the disorganisation of trade in consequence of the strike. Received August 16, 11.25 p.m. LONDON, August 16. The carters’ strike at Belfast has been settled. The employers conceded in some cases five shillings a. week rise, the average increase being 2s. The employers have freedom to employ whom they choose. . In the House of Commons Mr. Birred, replying to Labor members, declared that civil authorities at Belfast were justified in requisitioning the military as a precautionary measure. Everyone deplored the deaths, but bad the mob obtained mastery the loss of life would have been terrible.
