Tho Palmerston Chamber of Commerce appointed a deputation to wait, in conjunction with a deputation of M.11.R5., upon the Premier, urging tho taking over of the Manawatu railway. The question of tho - exportation of flax plants and seeds from New Zealand to other colonies was discussed. It was mentioned by the President that this was being done to ail alarming extent and might prove a menace to tho industry. Mr. Seifert, a leading flax-miller, said it. was too lato to take action as New Zealand flax was freely, grown, especially in Australia. It was decided to take no action. A movement to secure a continuous telephone service for Palmerston is being well sunported. INVERCARGILL. August 15. Tho Southland Chamber of Commerce resolved to-day that a resolution bo drafted and forwarded to tlio Minister protesting against tljo chamber being deprived of the right lo elect a member of t>o Harbor Board. It was also resolved that the chambor supnort the maximum weight of 'cornsacks boing fixed at 2001bs.
