CARRENO. It is not an uncommon experience for much lauded artists after winning world-wide fame to fail on occasions in quite fulfilling the expectations raised concerning them. There have been some conspicioues instances of this in New Zealand, which it would be invidious to particularise. It is a remarkable tribute to her charming personality, marked individuality, marvellous executive skill, and virile force that Carreno—the great pianist whom Ilerr Beniio Scherek is about to introduce to us —has never failed to captivate her audience at a' first hearing. New Zealand critics enthusiastically support the unanimous verdict of the Australian press as to the magnetic and conquering influence which this gifted lady has exercised on all the audiences she has played to. Carreno triumphs unequivocally wherever sho goes and it will certainly he reckoned by music lovers as a piece of good luck for them that Herr Scherek succeeded prevailing upon the “most interesting pianist- of the age,” to make a flying antipodean tour on her way to America, where she is hooked for eighty concerts, which have already been bought out by speculators.
