RELIGIOUS DEPUTATION AND DIVORCE.
[To tiie Editor.] Sir: It is stated in the jiress that “a religious deputation” waited recently upon Dr. Findlay and the Premie" and urged the repeal of a clause in the marriage laws which, it seems, facilitates divorce. Now Sir, with all due regard to the feelings of those who claim to preserve the safiredness of the marriage tie, I would ask why do the clergy of orthodox denominations (for they probably formed the chief part of the deputation) put themselves forward as representative of the whole people? I am sure if the truth were known there are many persons who wonll prefer that the law should stand in this respect as it now does. Then again, the orthodox clergy do totrepresent, for that matter do not profess to represent, the various heterodox bodies who form a not inconsiderable portion of the community as may be seen from reference to the recent census.—l am, etc., -DEIST.
