The various causes of the insanity of the persons admitted to tho mental hospitals of the colony last year are set forth in a table attached to the annual report of the Inspector-Gene-ral of these institutions. “Congenital and heredity” is tho cause assigned in no fewer than 165 cases, and “senility” accounted for 05. In S 4 cases alcoholism is set down as the cause, and 26 were defined as the result of a dissolute life. In 17 cases (two of which were females) syphilis was the cause assigned.
