SHIPPING MISHAP
SIX PERSONS DROWNED.
Received August 14, 5.10 p.m. HOBART, August 14. Tins Ivuu'Uitiri struck the breakwa/tr or at midnight while attempting to muter the Hoads at Macquarie Marker. Tlie night was dark and verj utoriny, with a h.ivh sea. Tlie latest report states that' five passengeis, namely, Mrs. Hooper and two children and two other children, also a stewardess (Mrs. Hoddiinott), were drowned. The rest of the passengeis •and the crew arrived safely at fe(trathan. , , , ~ The steamer was wrecked at the same spot where the Grafton was lost.

GREAT SUFFERINGS FROM EXPOSURE.
Received August 14, 0.65 a.m. HOBART, August 14. Following is the corrected list of tlie drowned : „ , •, Mrs. Hooper and her two children. The Stewardess (Miss Hogett). Two children in arms belonging to Mesdames Grundy and Tennant. Owing to the heavy weather most of the lines of communication between here and Strathan are down and only disjointed particulars have been received. The steamers Kathleen, Nellie and Mahinapua went to the sconePrevious to their arrival a boat with 22 aboard put off. Great waves washed some away, including the stewardess. A succeeding wave smashed the boat to pieces. Seas are breaking over her. Only portion of the bridge and the masts are above water. - OveT 40 passengers were aboard.
