DISCONTENTED C IVIL SERVANTS
POLITICAL “PULL” THE CAUSE. TEMPORARY CLERKS AND OTHER ANOMALIES. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, August 6. There is a great deal of discontent m the Civil Service here regarding anomalies in salaries. Political influence is said to be at the bottom of the trouble. In one of the principal Departments a girl with six years’ service receives £260, whil 6 a man high in authority with 33 years’ serv!ce receives only £360. Another with 26 years service gets £270, and io-c er "' lth years’ service receives £205. lii some Departments there are temporary” clerks whose years of service range from 20 years to 5 years, and their salaries range from os to Ids per day.
