BICYCLING ON FOOTPATHS.

To tlio Editor. —Sir, —In craving /our indulgence for a few remarks >n the above subject, I must say that [ marvel at the apathy displayed by the very large section of this community who class themselves as cyclists in tolerating without protest the inlignity cast upon them by servants of the State in making them lawbreakers. There is a medium in all things, and when one—-no matter how mean his comprehension may be —takes the late weather conditions and the frightful state of the roads into consideration, there is only one conclusion to arrive at, viz., that it is .vell-nigh impossible to obey the law in its entirety. The minions of the taw ought to exercise a little common cense in this matter—as was no doubt intended by our legislators—md not make enemies of people who vish to be, and are, law-abiding. Sarsh treatment of this nature can have but one result, namely, to bring constituted authority into contempt, tnd force the people to regard police officials as their common enemies. I .enture to say that if the Law authorities intend to allow the ethics of ustice to be trifled with in this manler, a reaction will set in, and then h e too-officious law officers will discover they are using a weapon that nay recoil. —I am, etc., August 5. FAIR PLAY.
