SATURDAY, JULY 3.
(Before Air. Barton, S.AI.) Drunkenness. Ernest Trimmer was charged with this offence and was fined £1 with costs 2s, in default 4 days imprisonment-'. Aiaiutenance Order.—Alice Single sued Clins. Single for failing to comply with a maintenance order, charging him to pay 15s a week towards the support of his wife, and S children. The accused admitted that he had only paid £1 of the order and that there was £42 8s duo. He stated that he had trouble in finding employment and bail .gone elsewhere to see if be could better himself. His YVorship replied that it was all nou.icnse to say a strong mail like tbe accused could not find work. Alice Single deposed that- she was the wife of the accused who had only paid £1 towards her maintenance since the order had been mado. " She and her children liad beeii supported by the Cliaritalilo Aid ’ Board for about- 6 or 8 months.
The acciiEOfi was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment, and was ordered to pay £1 a week. In passing sentence His YVorship said that the accused was an ablebodied man and ought to be thoroughly ashamed of himself. He understood that drink was at the bottom of the trouble and strongly advised tbe accused to shun liquor when he came out of gaol. He. also explained to the accused that the debt would not- be wiped out in any way by the term of imprisonment and advised him to return and support bis wife and family as be was egaily ppd morally bound to do.
