The Union Co.’s s.s. Squall arrived at Napier at 11.10 - esterday morning from Gisborne. She proceeds direct to AYhangarei this trip. The schooner Gisborne arrived m the bav at midnight on the Ist inst, and was towed to the wharf by the Tavern at 9 a.m. yesterday morning. The cargo consists of 230,000 feet of timber, 4000 bricks and five tons of coni. The Gisborne, after discharging her cargo, will proceed to Tairua. The Tyser Co.’s ocean liner Marerr calls in here on Monday next from Auckland to take a day's loading to relieve the congestion at Nelson Bros.’ freezing works. The barque Haze! Craig, now at Melbourne, will after discharging her present- cargo proceed to Newcastle to load a cargo of coal for Messrs Evans, Nisid and Co. The Coronation is now loading 100,000 ft of sawn timber at Mercury Bay for the firm of Messrs. Evans, Nield, and Co., and will leave for Gisborne wlrer the weather permits. There was launched at Belfast on May 30 a steamer which has been built for the Tyser Line (Limited) London. The vessel, which was named YVhakarau. is 460 ft in length, with a gross tonnage of about 6500 i and has been built under Lloyd’s survey for the highest class in their registry. The new steamer is of the shelter-deck type, and has three complete steel deejes, extending all fore and aft. The cargo space is divided into five largo holds, three of these being insulated and prepared for the reception of frozen meat cargo, and for the preservation of which a very complete refrigerating installation has been fitted. Each of the holds is provided with a large hatchway equipped with a couple of powerful steam winches and the necessary derricks for expeditiously dealing 'with a large general cargo, the derricks being swung from the masts and rpec'-vl derrick posts. The propelling machinery consists of two ents of direct-acting tri-compound engines. with nil the most modern auxiliary appliances, supplied with steam from four single-ended multitnimlnr boilers, working under forced draught.
