• AUCKLAND, last night. The annual Conference of local bodies in the Manukau County was held to-day. Mr. E. Allen (Pukekoho East) presided. It was decided to place on record the valuable services rendered to local bodies by the late Mr. M. M. Kirkbride, M.H.RI A resolution was carried, “That the Noxious Weeds Act should lie progressively administered and owners of property should bo compelled to clear a. certain portion of their property every year.” It was also decided that pressure be brought to bear on the Government to clear all Crown lands of noxious weeds.

It was decided that all local bodies in the country take united action to poison birds in July each -year, and that the Government he aslcod to distribute poisoned grain to Boards at cost price. .It was resolved that condemned stock bo valued at full market rates instead of at boiling-down rates as at present. In this connection _it was pointed out that if a beast which was ailing was bought by a farmer he hesitated about telling tho inspector on account of the small •value placed* upon it, whereas if a fair market value were allowed he would have no ob ject in keeping the disease quiet. ‘ It was resolved that quail bo included in the Small Birds Nuisance It was also resolved, “That- tlio Government subsidy to local bodies be on a graduated scale, so that the amount will he increased according as tlio rate levied is increaed, and fbe maximum limit be done away with.” ■'
