The London Frozen Meat Trade Association reports the following quotations:—Frozen mutton—North Island 3Jd per lb, best brands 4&d, rest unchanged. Lamb—Canterbury light 53d medium old, heavy old, South Island old, North Island old. N.Z. beet unchanged. Ac the wool sales there is keener competition for - crossbreds. Merinos are in sellers’ favor. The following were the average prices realised for the following clips.:—Ben Ohau 9Jd, Wiau 10 l-sd, Ivaputone 20d, Kaimuta l2jd, Hiku 12d. The .number of bales catalogued to date is 137,223, and 122,-411 were sold.
Press Association. WELLINGTON, last night. Following is the Commissioner’s cabb, dated London, July 20:—The mutton market is firm. Stocks on hand are light, and firmly held in a few hands. Canterbury mutton 4gd, North Island 4d. The lamb market is firm, with good demand for all classes. Stocks on hand are moderate. Canterbury, 53d, other than Canterbury 5Jd. The beef market is quiet but firm, the prices being 3jd and 3&d for hindquarters and forequarters respectively. Supplies of American chilled beef on hand are small. • The butter market is quiet but steady. The prospects for next season are doubtful at present. Everyone is inclined to hold back as lon 'as possible, thereby forcing the market price down. Choicest N.Z. O')-. Danish 109 s, Siberian 925, Irish 100 s. Large supplies are coming forward. The cheese market is steady, a gooll demand being experienced. Canadian supplies are likely to increase. N.Z. 615,, Canadian white 575, colored oSs. The cocksfoot seed market is firm. however, have bee n offering more freely, and bright 171 b seed is quoted at 58s per cwt. Current quotations for Bradfor ! tops are: 36’s low crossbreds Is •3id, 40’s low crossbreds Is 4Jd, 44’s medium crossbreds Is ofd, 50’s halfbreds Is 9d, 56’s quarter-breds 2s oid 60’s merinos 2s 4d per lb. The arrivals from River Plate during the month of June are: Mutton —Londoi 123.274 cwt, Hull 8429, Newcastle 10.138, Cardiff 11.022, Southampton 590, Ireland 2360, Plymouth 1892. Lamb—London 10.874, Hull 1000, Liverpool 16,730, Newcastle 1000, Cardiff 500. Southampton 376, Plymouth 300.
WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. (Special to Times.) AVELLINGTON, last night. In the Stock Exchange to-day Talisman Consolidated shares were sold as high as £2 6s. There were sellers of Taranaki petroleum shares at 15s.
