A very onjoyable evening s dancing was indulged in by those who attended tlio 'opening of Dir. Von Lubbos assembly at ' Ormond on Wounosday evening last. Quito a large number were present, and tho dancing space was taxed to tho utmost. Mr. Von Lubbe, in addressing the Assembly, said that he was gratified to see such a big gathering for the opening, and it spoke well for tlio success of the futuro dances. lie wished to thank Mr. Lielitwai'k, his predecessor, for tho valuable assistance ho had given in promoting tlio success of tho function. Dancing was kept up till the early hours of the morning and one and'all went home having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

A pamphlet circulated by tho Lands Department notifies the opening up in the Nelson province of 337,750 acres of land. The Commissioner of Crown Lands says:—“These lands are for the most part of second-class quality, but aro offered on easy tornis, and should attract tho attention of intending selectors by being situated in a district justly celebrated for the excellence of its climate. The Parliamentary trip to the North Island Main Trunk railway works, which was to have been made shoitly before the session, but was abandoned owing to wet iveather, lias now been definitely fixed for today. Mr. Remington, M.H.R. for Rangitikei, who has beep interviewing members on the subject, has received numerous promises from the North and South Island representatives desirous of making the trip. It is proposed to go right through to Raetihi to-day. There the partv will be the guests of the Raetiln Progressive Association. Taumaranoi will he made a stopping place on Saturday, 20th, and a special train is to be put on to take them from Taumaranui to Onolumga. The visitor return to Wellington by way of r.se Manaivatu line on the following Monday.
