Further provisions relating to boxing are contained in the Police Offences Act Amendment Fill, of which the Premier has charge. “Boxing contest” is defined as “any boxing match, boxing competition, or boxing exhibition, for the admission to which a charge is made, or at which a collection is taken up, or at which those present are invited to throw money into the ring, or otherwise deposit in the building or elsewhere. No boxing contest may be held without a permit granted by the Inspector of Police of the district, and that permit can only bo granted on the application of some club or association approved for that purpose by the Go-vernor-in-Council. Anyone who promotes, holds, or is engaged in, and everyone other than a constable who
is at present at, any boxing contest held in breach of these provisions, is liable to a fine not exceeding £20.” A constable is empowered by day or night to enter any premises in which lie has reason to believe that a boxing contest is being held, and may if necessary make such entry by force. Where lie finds that a boxing contest is being held in breach of the Act, he is empowered to arrest without warrant every person found there whose name and address is unknown to him, and who refused to give his true name and address.
